When you compare local machine shops, pick one whose floor you can walk, and ask which processes stay inside its own building. We own and run our Garland machine shop, a single 13,000 sq ft building at 2921 National Ct that houses our core in-house capabilities under one roof. Laser cutting is the one process we route through our supplier network. Our 15-person full-time team works out of that climate-controlled facility, which we use for shipping as well as in-house machining and fabrication. The team includes an in-house mechanical engineer and CNC programmers.
What stays in the building
Our waterjet cuts at 90,000 PSI and handles steel up to approximately 6 inches thick. The same shop also runs a 5x10 CNC router, and press-brake bending and forming are done there too.
A shop that answers the "what do you send out" question plainly on the first call is easier to plan around than one that doesn't.
What a visit shows you

In this photo of our shop floor, which is our own picture from inside the building rather than a stock image, the wide view shows fabrication tables and equipment.
One Google reviewer says they came by to meet the owner and see how the shop operates. That reviewer says the facility was clean and the employees seemed to like working there. The same review praises our craftsmanship and fast service.
Asking to walk the floor before you send work is a fair request to make of any nearby shop.
Who owns the shop
We were founded in 2006. When new owners acquired the business in March 2026, they kept the existing team and service culture in place. We moved into the current Garland facility in 2019, and we now serve 100+ customers a year. We are also an active member of the Garland Chamber of Commerce.
It is worth asking who will actually run your job. Daily operations on the machine-shop side are led by our shop manager, who joined Kimbrell in 2019. Our fabrication manager, who joined in early 2025, leads the fabrication production team. Both are introduced on our about page.
Reading the reviews
Praise is easy to find on any shop's listing, so look for reviews that describe what was actually made or fixed.
One reviewer says we completed several rush jobs for them, ranging from repairs to full part fabrications. A reviewer who had a custom part made says the team communicated well from the first conversation through the finished part and delivered "a result that fit perfectly." Another, a repeat machining customer, calls us a down-to-earth, people-first business and says they will keep using the shop for future machining needs. A reviewer writing in 2021 praises our fast responses and wide range of capabilities. A metal-fabrication customer says everyone they worked with was professional and attentive through the process, and that the products are "built to last."
What to bring
Our custom plant fabrication work, from machine safety guarding to catwalks and handrails, can start from a rough sketch, from photos and measurements, or from a plant walk-down. That fabrication work also includes repeat production runs of enclosures and electrical boxes, along with sheet-metal assemblies. If a project needs stamped professional engineering, it should be identified early.
Start with a call
If a part has failed, call us before anything else, then send photos or bring the part to the Garland facility so we can scope the fastest path while there is still no drawing. For qualifying emergency repair work, a rotating on-call team covers after hours. You can contact us online, or start with our capabilities.
