Precision CNC machine shop: what gets checked before the first cut

At Kimbrell Manufacturing, a review happens before the first part is cut. Our in-house mechanical engineer and CNC programmers go over the material and tolerances on a job and check whether the part can be manufactured. Once a job has run, we keep the drawings and programs on file, together with the tooling and inspection requirements, to support repeat production runs. Our own shop is at 2921 National Ct, our Garland machine shop, where our core in-house capabilities sit under one roof.

CNC or manual: picking the machine

For CNC milling we use Haas vertical machining centers plus a Hurco with live tooling, set up for 3-axis and 4-axis work. We also keep manual milling and manual turning on the floor for repair work and modifications in cases where a conventional setup is faster than programming a CNC job.

Long shafts: what we check before saying yes

Our live-tool CNC turning includes long-shaft turning up to roughly 160 inches. Whether a particular shaft can be done is confirmed case by case. Diameter and material both factor in, as do weight and tolerance and the way the shaft will be held on the machine.

When a part has failed and nobody has a drawing, start with a call, then send photos or bring the part itself to us in Garland so the fastest path can be scoped before a drawing exists. That path might be a repair or a remake, or it might mean reverse engineering or a new fabrication, and our emergency repair and reverse engineering page covers how that intake works.

Who leads the shop and fabrication teams

Our shop manager has been with Kimbrell since 2019 and runs day-to-day machine-shop operations. He came to us after 30 years in the Milwaukee area, working as a manual machinist and shop foreman for an industrial machine shop. That work covered high-mix, low-volume jobs, emergency repairs, reverse engineering and one-off projects.

Our fabrication manager and engineer came on in early 2025. He leads the fabrication production team and supports engineering and design work. His mechanical engineering degree is from Oklahoma State University.

From a garage to Garland

Our founder trained as a machinist in the US Navy and then put in ten years at the trade in DFW before the business started in a garage in 2006 with one used manual machine. It moved into its first standalone building in 2012 and into the current Garland facility of about 13,000 sq ft in 2019. Today we belong to the Garland Chamber of Commerce as an active member.

On the fabrication side, the Garland shop runs an Accurpress 717510 press brake and a Master-Cut CNC saw, plus a Kingsland ironworker for structural stock. Its welding bays handle MIG and TIG welding as well as laser welding. That equipment sits alongside our 3- and 4-axis CNC machining for assemblies that are both machined and welded.

What customers report

One customer, with us for three years after switching from another machine shop, says not one of the jobs we have done for them has been sent back for rework. The same customer says we have sometimes improved on an existing design.

A Google reviewer who describes himself as an industrial maintenance specialist at a metal distribution company says he has used us for everything that is "odd or special." Our reviews page listed 56 Google reviews averaging 4.8 stars as of October 2026.
